Experiencing Mathematics

Exhibition supported by UNESCO

"Experiencing Mathematics" was the exhibition selected by the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF) to inaugurate the opening of its Mathematics Informatics Station (MAINS) on May 19, 2017. The traveling exhibition was initiated as well as supported by UNESCO and was on display for the first time in Germany at MAINS until August 31, 2017.

Mathematics plays an essential role in our everyday lives: no computer, smartphone or cash card would work without mathematics. Despite this enormous importance, mathematics is usually underestimated by the public, often classified as too boring and too difficult to explore extensively. The interactive exhibition "Experiencing Mathematics" set out to change this conception and to show: mathematics is not just something for scientists, but can be grasped by anyone, mathematics is interesting and useful, even full of exciting surprises, and mathematics is fundamental for technological development and our everyday lives.

The exhibition was divided into 10 areas, and various experiment stations invited visitors to experience mathematics using their own hands.
